New Year's concert
Girardi Ensemble Graz
The Girardi Ensemble Graz was founded in 2002. The individual musicians, who have been playing together in various chamber music formations for many years, have shaped the unmistakable character of the ensemble through their experience from a wide range of international concert activities with renowned string quartets such as the Amadeus Quartet and the Alban Berg Quartet, as well as from their collaboration with such outstanding musicians as Paul Badura Skoda, Aleksandra Mikulska, Arvo Pärt and the Vienna Boys' Choir.
Strauss bridges the gap between entertainment and high musical standards with playful ease. The Girardi Ensemble Graz is under the artistic direction of Harald Martin Winkler, a violinist in the tradition of Johann Strauss. Full concentration and enthusiasm are paired with the highest musical standards. One of the Girardi Ensemble's main concerns is to reproduce the classical Viennese music that has filled concert halls for centuries in all its vitality and verve.
The chamber music ensemble uses carefully crafted arrangements based on the composers' original scores.
A musical firework display of the most beautiful compositions by the waltz king Johann Strauss and his contemporaries is ignited by the Girardi Ensemble. Hours full of Viennese charm with waltzes, polkas and songs at the highest artistic level, in which the audience is whisked away to the long-forgotten days of the Biedermeier era.
As a top-class chamber music ensemble, the Girardi Ensemble has long since established a firm place for itself on the concert stage and is a regular guest at renowned concert series and festivals in Austria, Slovenia, Germany, Liechtenstein and Italy.
