Surrounded by the impressive panorama of the Koralpe, situated in the middle of the mountain village of Trahütten, this magical architectural monument towers freely on all sides. The former summer residence of Anna Nahowski, the secret lover of Emperor Franz Joseph, is enveloped in the charm of the imperial-royal past.
The unique atmosphere served the artist and composer Alban Berg, himself Nahowski's son-in-law, as a haven of peace for his composing; some of his most important works were written here, most notably his opera "Wozzeck". The villa was described like a "ship in the mountains" by the Austrian writer Hans Lebert in his novel. He also wrote his most famous work "The Wolf's Skin" here. The two apartment suites, newly designed by the designer duo itshe+io (SelfSightSeeing Company) 2022, invite you to experience the bourgeois design worlds of the early 20th century up close.
Not only the incomparable location of the villa makes vacation dreams of art and culture lovers, sun seekers, winter lovers and sports enthusiasts alike come true - culinary delights, wine, hiking, golf, horseback riding and much more is on offer in the region of southern Styria. In summer and winter, the Alban Berg Villa offers peace and relaxation - the perfect break from everyday life.

Room details
The apartment suite alban & hans is located in the east wing of the listed Villa Alban Berg, which was built in 1854 as a stately hunting lodge. The rooms aim to be a living museum space with an overnight experience, where visitors:inside can immerse themselves in the cultural and historical worlds of Alban Berg and Hans Lebert.
In the entrance there are two portraits: that of the composer Alban Berg, who composed a large part of his works here, and that of his nephew, the writer Hans Lebert, for whom the Alban Berg Villa and the mountain village of Trahütten served as inspiration for his literary works. The salon, decorated in majestic English red, traces a fragmentary development story of Alban Berg's opera "Wozzeck," composed entirely at the villa, by means of a wall installation of pictures and musical instruments. The bedroom and study, decorated in a woody olive green, with Berg's desk, tells of the composers and artistic circles in which Berg moved, as well as of the life of the writer and opera singer Hans Lebert.

Room details
The apartment suite alma & helene is located in the west wing of the listed Alban Berg Villa, which was built in 1854 as a stately hunting lodge. The rooms aim to be a living museum-like space with an overnight experience, where visitors:inside can immerse themselves in the cultural and historical worlds of Alma Mahler-Werfel and Helene Nahowski.
Three portraits hang in the Winter Garden Entrée: that of the femme fatale Alma Mahler-Werfel, who shared a deep friendship with the Bergs; that of the illegitimate emperor's daughter and wife of Alban Berg, Helene Nahowski; and that of Anna Nahowski, the mistress of Emperor Franz Josef. In the lilac salon, historical photographs fragmentarily trace the history of the Nahowski-Berg family and the villa itself. In the pastel-green bedroom and study, Alma Mahler-Werfel's imposing web of relationships spreads out, while the different lives of two women also combine against the backdrop of the intimate relationship between Alma and Helene to create an inspiring tableau vivant of contemporary history.
