"Wurzelkraft & Seelenfutter"

"Wurzelkraft & Seelenfutter" teaches traditional herbalism, but not only. There is cooking, but not only. There is time spent outdoors, but not only. What Claudia and Cornelia offer here is a combination of all of this - and more. It is botany with soul, wilderness cuisine, nature appreciation. In short: a do-good intervention for body, mind and soul.

Claudia, the soul of the house and a connoisseur of the forest, is in charge of the place, while Tyrolean-born Cornelia, an advocate of herbs, forests and meadows, conveys every conceivable aspect of nature. The location is predestined for this endeavour: "It's a place of the heart and soul," says Cornelia about the Rinntaverne. It was first mentioned in 1272 as the "Taverne an der Rinn". And this "Rinn" still exists today: just like 750 years ago, it provides the gentle background sound to the idyll with its splashing. Interrupted at most by a moo or a meow, because Claudia shares the house and farm not only with her husband and children, but also with cats, pigs, sheep and chickens.

Time out for the time

Time plays an important role at "Wurzelkraft & Seelenfutter". It is celebrated, not timetabled. This is also the reason why there is no precisely defined programme. Claudia and Cornelia stick to a rough concept; the friends are convinced that everything else is dictated by nature and the group. They want to adapt to the individual needs and wishes of the participants. That's why no two courses are the same. You can go hiking and climb the local mountain, the Frauenmauer, with Claudia. But you don't have to. You can just as easily stay at the Rinntaverne with Cornelia to make herbal compresses and rub herbs into green salt. Regardless of what you do, it's less about the end product and more about the doing itself. Mindful walking, mindful harvesting, mindful feeling or quite simply: mindful doing nothing. With an ancient oak tree from imperial times behind you and the chirping of crickets in your ears, the supposedly unproductive "doing nothing" opens up a form of time that hardly finds a place in the lives of modern people: the here and now.

You walk to the beat of nature and this essentially follows a melody that is in no hurry. Host Claudia has adapted her very own form of meditation: She watches sheep. "It's incredibly relaxing and calming. I can watch the sheep hour after hour. That's meditation for me." Whether it's an oak tree or a sheep: everyone can find the perfect setting for their very own form of nature meditation in the gem surrounding the Rinntaverne. Or as Claudia calls it: for "brain cleansing". All senses, all elements can and should be tried out. Feel the bark, breathe the air, forge by the fire, smell the grasses, taste the herbs. Nature is not only experienced visually here, but holistically. You get to know it with all your senses.

The forest and meadow kitchen

Of course, all the senses also include physical well-being. And for this, nature has a cornucopia of treasures in store. Together, we collect treasures from the wilderness on our doorstep and then cook them up. Roasted onions with wild herbs, home-baked bread with curd cheese from the farm, with a choice of ham, game or fish from our own pond. Whether deadnettle or yarrow, wild parsnip leaves or beavernell root, lady's mantle or lime leaves: Cornelia knows that 90% of all herbs and plants growing here are also edible. The supermarket is in your own garden. And it covers more flavour components than the industrialised food supply, which is conditioned to be "sweet" and "salty". Natural cuisine supplements missing components and draws on the entire spectrum of the human taste sensory system. Whether mucilage, bitterness or tannins: much of this is deliberately bred out of our food today, those who go with nature and discover it as a food source for themselves also complete the circle of their flavour potential. And will realise in the process: Wild herbs are not just side dishes and rabbit food, they also fill you up. Knowing how is also about independence. In any case, you won't just be full in culinary terms afterwards. "Wurzelkraft & Seelenfutter" satisfies the heart, soul, body and mind in equal measure. With plenty of time out for plenty more time.
