As a lecturer, she has set herself the task of communicating knowledge about bees and natural relationships on a broader scale. Bees are very present in the media. This continues to generate a lot of interest and questions. In her lecture Understanding bees - supporting bees, she gives an overview of the necessity of bees in our ecosystems. In addition to the production of honey and bee products, the pollination service of honey bees is needed to increase yields in agriculture and to pollinate many wild plants in natural ecosystems. Pollination is the basis of high-quality food and biodiversity. Honey bees are supported by wild insects. Anita Winkler describes the annual cycle of a honey bee colony, the causes and influence of diseases. She sheds light on the ecological system connections and the influence of humans on them. Finally, she gives an outlook on what people in agriculture and each individual - including in their garden - can do for the well-being of bees.
Dr. Anita Winkler is a specialist veterinarian for bees, specialist worker for beekeeping and bee disease expert, member of the training committee for specialist veterinarians and the expert committee for bees of Animal Health Austria.
