Experience nature in the Murau region

Eight summits and about 40 lakes are only waiting for you to explore the splendid nature of the Murau region. From spring to autumn, you can experience marvellous panoramic views during hiking, cycling or swimming.

If you’re into long-distance hiking, the Via Natura trail might be just the thing for you. Young guests can explore the region’s colourful nature during the “NaturLesen” (Reading Nature) scheme at Nature Park Zirbitzkogel-Grebenzen.

Avid cyclists appreciate the region’s varied network of cycle paths, ranging from leisurely rides along the river Mur to challenging mountain trails.

On hot summer days, you can take a refreshing dip. Whether it’s down in the valley or up in the Alpine pasture region: Murau’s natural lakes and public pools offer water fun for the whole family.

During the winter months, the Murau region turns into one big snow paradise. Experience action-packed days of skiing, snowboarding and sledging with your loved ones! Away from the crowds, you can enjoy the tranquillity of the glistening winter landscape during ski touring, winter hiking or cross-country skiing.

FIS Snowboard and Freeski World Cup 2025

On 10 and 11 January 2025, the international elite of snowboarding and freestyle skiing will gather on the Kreischberg World Championship mountain. Exciting big-air competitions in the freeski and snowboard disciplines are on the programme, with thrilling finals taking place in the evening under impressive floodlights.

Cultural highlights around Murau

Culture lovers get their money’s worth in the Murau region. For instance, learn about the history of beer brewing during a guided tour of the Brewery of Senses. The art of brewing has been playing a major role throughout the region since 1495. Additional highlights for culture lovers include the historic buildings of St. Lambrecht’s Abbey and Murau Castle.

The Murau region is also known for the many traditional festivities taking place there. For instance, annual highlights such as the “Faschingsrennen” (carnival race) or the “Samsonumzug” procession are deeply rooted in the history of the respective villages.
