I bin a Murtaler - Gipfelkreuz Hochschwung

  • 3 minutes of reading time
Recently a new Murtaler decorates the Hochschwung. The brand-new summit cross was erected by the Bretstein rural youth. On 26th August it was inaugurated.

In 1955, the first summit cross was erected on the Hochschwung in the Pölstal. After a long time, the wooden cross was destroyed by the wind and replaced by a steel cross in 1979. This has withstood wind and weather until now. However, time has left its mark. Reason enough for the Bretstein Rural Youth, which is highly motivated and tradition-conscious, to provide the summit with a new cross. Christoph Haingartner constructed and designed the cross using the latest technology and with a love of detail. Supported by the company Kreis Landtechnik in Pölstal, the summit cross was erected on 30 July at around 2100 meters above sea level. The cross is now waiting here for many motivated hikers and mountaineers.

We were allowed to interview the new Murtal resident exclusively:

Erlebnisregion Murtal: What connects you with the Murtal?

Hochschwung summit cross: The love of the mountains. In the Murtal we have an incredible mountain world with 92 peaks over 2000 metres above sea level.

Erlebnisregion Murtal: When do you feel your heart beat in the Murtal?

Hochschwung summit cross: When enthusiastic hikers discover me with relief and celebrate their summit victory with me, my proud mountain heart beats properly.

Erlebnisregion Murtal: Favourite place in the Murtal?

Hochschwung summit cross: Here at the Hochschwung, of course. The air is incredibly fresh here and the view is simply magnificent.
