I am a Murtaler - Zirbitzkogel
With 2396 meters above sea level, the Zirbitzkogel is one of the highest mountains in the Murtal (The highest mountain is the large Bösenstein in Hohentauern with 2448 meters). The Zirbitz can be hiked via several trails of varying degrees of difficulty and is home to the highest refuge in Austria. Here a hearty snack with Murtaler Steirerkäse, a fortifying soup and a Zirbenschnapserl at Zirbitz-Werner may not be missing. The Zirbitz holds an impressive natural spectacle at any time of the year, whether in spring, when a few snowfields adorn the summit panorama of the Seetal Alps, or in summer, when it glows from pink to fiery red due to the alpine bush. From this it also bears its name. Translated from Croatian, "čьrvenica" means red area. In autumn, the peak king is immersed in the most beautiful colors of the "golden summer" and impresses with romantic sunrise or sunset hikes before it covers itself again in a thick white blanket of snow in early winter.
Erlebnisregion Murtal: „What does connect you with the Murtal?“
Zirbitz: „As the highest mountain in the Seetal Alps, I look down on the Murtal from the south. I love the natural spectacle that the Murtal offers. The mountain lakes, the animals, the plants - everything surrounds me and I am proud to be part of this beautiful area!"
Erlebnisregion Murtal: „When do you feel your heart beat?“
Zirbitz: „When the first rays of the sun warm me up in summer and I look out over the fiery red landscape around me and see the radiant alpine bush, my stony heart starts beating quite nicely. Unfortunately, the Almrausch blooms only briefly, but that's what makes it so special!“
Erlebnisregion Murtal: „Where is your favourite place in the Murtal?“
Zirbitz: „I love my Seetal Alps, here I stand hand in hand with the Kreiskogel and the high Rannach and form the border to the south. But once I would like to get to know the big Bösenstein, of which I have heard many stories from hikers!“
