The history of the farm probably dates back to the time of the repopulation and clearing of the area, with the foundation of the lordship and the castle Frondsberg, which was built in the first half of the 13th century. An Ulreich Ekchart in der Grub is mentioned for the first time in the Montfort Urbar (around 1420). The further history can be traced without gaps from 10.2.1772 with the marriage of Jakob Schloffer, vulgo Jagl in der Grub, to Anna Stainer until today. The farm remained in the possession of the family under the name Schloffer until the grandfather, vulgo Franzl in der Grub, of the current owner.
The farm is situated in the middle of its 27 hectare area and the steep, amphitheatre-like terrain explains the vulgo name In der Grub (perhaps to be translated with depression) of the estate.
On the foundation walls and the old cellar vault of the former Rauchstubenhaus ( with an open fireplace in the main room), the house was rebuilt in 1999 using traditional timber block construction techniques and old building materials, and now houses three apartments.
A fourth apartment is available in the Kellerstöckl, built on the vaulted cellar of a former press house.

Conditions
The secluded location, surrounded by the meadows and the woods of the estate, offers opportunities for walks and resting places, to enjoy nature, a playground free from the dangers of road traffic for children, who are also invited to practise as little naturalists, whether in the woods, on the meadow or along our stream Falkenbach.
Nevertheless, the farm, which can be reached via an asphalted private road about one kilometre from the federal road, offers good connections to the local infrastructure: gastronomy and shopping facilities in the nearby Markt Anger, the outdoor swimming pool in Anger, the Rauchstubenhaus museum and inn, the summer toboggan run in Koglhof, etc.
The location also offers a good starting point to reach the mountain pastures Sommeralm and Teichalm, ideal for mountain hiking, via the pilgrimage site Heilbrunn or to explore the north side of Graz's main mountain, the Schöckl.
Last but not least, the Feistritztal cycle path is located in the valley, making it easy to reach Birkfeld, Anger or Stubenberg am See.

Arrival
We can be reached via the Weizer-Bundesstraße B72:
From Anger in the direction of Birkfeld, at the turn-off Brandlucken - Heilbrunn still straight ahead on the federal road, after 700 m the access road branches off to the right (signpost Ferienwohnungen Raczkowski) and keeping to the right over the level crossing of the narrow-gauge railway approx. 1 km on the asphalted private road through the forest and over the Falkenbach bridge you will soon reach our farm.
From Birkfeld in the direction of Anger, past Koglhof and Frondsberg Castle, you will reach the GIZ Rosegg and the small Rosegg railway station, from there after 900 m the access road branches off to the left (signpost Ferienwohnungen Raczkowski). Continue as above.
If you arrive by bus (RegioBus Steiermark 230), the bus stop Steg-Falkenbachbrücke is right next to the access road, we will be happy to pick you up from there.
Arrival is possible between 14.00 and 18.00.
Departure must take place by 11.00 a.m. at the latest.
Other arrival and departure times can be arranged with the landlady.

The Kellerstöckl, an old cider press house, once fell victim to a fire. Today's residential house was subsequently built on the preserved cellar vault.
The separate house offers a kitchen with dining table, a bedroom with double bed, a small room with desk and a bathroom with shower and toilet. A protected terrace lies between the Kellerstöckl and an adjacent old stable.

The name Falkenbach stands for the stream of the same name, which once ran a house mill and later supplied the farm with electricity. Its vernacular name Kleschbach, from kleschen, to beat or resound loudly (same etymology as english clash), may derive from its power during floods or a rockfall in times past, the remains of which are still clearly visible today.
The apartment occupies the space of the old Rauchstube and the Labn, a typical hallway of the house, and offers a large parlour with a massive wooden table called Jogltisch and a sofa bed, a kitchen with a dining table and corner bench, a bedroom with a double bed, a bedroom with a single bed, a large bathroom with shower and bathtub, and a separate WC.

Forstwald is the name for the large forest that can be seen from the balcony of the apartment and also extends on the other side of the stream Falkenbach to the village Baierdorf. Early in the morning, roe deer can often be seen grazing in the meadows.

Rosegg is the name of the nearby railway station of the Feistritztalbahn, which could be reached in a few minutes from our farm. The narrow-gauge railway once ran from Weiz via Birkfeld to the mining village of Ratten and it is to be hoped that it will still be preserved as a museum railway on parts of the route. Since 1902, the Rosegg cardboard factory also existed there, on the site of which stands today's GIZ Rosegg trade and industry centre.
