Our winery was founded in 1990 by Johann and Margit Thünauer. Since 1993 we are certified organic. From the beginning according to the guidelines of organic biological farming, wine was initially grown on about one hectare.
After Georg Thünauer took over the farm, additional areas were first newly planted and leased on the Eichberg - and subsequently in 2018, a vineyard was also established on the Mellachberg in Fernitz-Mellach. This increased the farm area to about 2.5 hectares.
The work on the vineyard is mostly done by hand. We spend a lot of time in the vineyard and have the possibility to react very quickly to changes and to recognize approaching problems at an early stage. Sustainability is very important on the farm. We do not use heavy machinery, synthetic pesticides, natural poisons or artificial fertilizers. The vineyard is permanently planted with vegetation and necessary mowing in the understock area is done with a scythe. The flora and fauna in our vineyard has the possibility to regulate itself as far as possible. If you look at the diversity of species on the farm, you can only recommend this method of cultivation. A healthy soil is extremely important in addition to flora and fauna. this total package can also be tasted in our wines.
In the cellar, fining is avoided as far as possible. Since 2014, the entire operation is also certified by the Vegan Society Austria for vegan production. All our products offered are vegan, because we believe that a purely plant-based product should not be contaminated with animal-based fining agents.
Our wines are given the time they need to reach their perfect drinking maturity. Only then are they bottled and put on sale.
