wall of queer fame
by itshe+io
In February 2024, itshe+io opened Austria's first queer hotel: the Absteige zur bärtigen Therese. The façade of the Alpenchalet has been covered with a pattern of wallpaper triangles since March 2024. The wallpapers are found pieces from the attic of the house, as well as remnants from itshe+io's design projects and wallpaper collections. One by one, each piece of wallpaper is inscribed with names and portraits of queer personalities. With the wall of queer fame, itshe+io want to make a contribution to the visibility of queer history. They combine art in architecture with re-use approaches and historical content. The artwork is intended to grow continuously and ideally be depicted in fragments on the entire building. As part of Design Month 2024, itshe+io will present the work they have created so far. The project is accompanied by a social media call and offers people the opportunity to propose queer personalities for the wall of queer fame.
Schwarze Luft
Photographs in public space by Michael Giefing
Once again, Hans Lebert's visual and insanely important language has been forgotten and has virtually seeped into the forest floor of Trahütten. In order to revive his novel "Die Wolfshaut", the Lower Austrian photographer Michael Giefing traveled to Trahütten again and again between November 8, 2023 and February 14, 2024 to search for Hans Lebert's motifs in parallel with the plot. The resulting photographs hang in large format on the tennis court, where they merge with the location and inscribe themselves into it.
