The current parish church “Maria Geburt” in Arnfels, an important example of late Baroque architecture, was built between 1714 and 1734.
On August 24, 1734, it was solemnly consecrated by Prince-Bishop Jakob II Ernest Count von Lichtenstein. The master builder of this impressive church remains unknown to this day. Nevertheless, the building bears witness to a conservative architectural language that is strongly reminiscent of the early Baroque period. With a length of 41 meters, a width of 16 meters and a vault height of almost 14 meters, the church presents itself with simple elegance. The single-nave nave comprises four bays and is accompanied by side chapels. The priest's choir is one and a half bays long and blends harmoniously into the overall concept. The historic interior is particularly noteworthy, reflecting both the time of the Reformation in the late 16th century and the subsequent Counter-Reformation. The parish church “Maria Geburt am grünen Waasen” is not only a place of faith, but also an architectural jewel that is deeply rooted in the history of the region.
