Remschniggalm - Naturpark Juwel
ArnfelsSouth of Arnfels, right on the border with Slovenia and at an altitude of 650 to 750 m, lies the Remschnigg Alm.
Colorful pastures in the Bürstlingsreich.
The Remschniggalm is located south of Arnfels am Remschnigg in the Southern Styria Nature Park. Here, to the west of the Poßruck (slow. Koziak), runs the border with Slovenia.
The Remschniggalm is the lowest alpine pasture in Austria (742m). There is an old orchard around the Poglei hut, whose trees are in full bloom in May. Red clover, white-flowered wild carrot and ribwort plantain thrive on the pastures. The hilltops are particularly interesting: they are rich in species and are home to the yellow-flowered small mouse-ear hawkweed, winged broom, true yarrow, true ragwort and many other herbs.
Numerous bird species also feel at home in this pasture landscape interspersed with individual fruit trees and groups of bushes. These include the red-backed shrike, which likes to deposit the insects it catches on the spines and thorns of the bushes, as well as the blackcap, black redstart, greenfinch and kestrel - to name but a few. The butterflies should also be mentioned: The swallowtail, the checkerboard butterfly and also the large ox-eye are particularly beautifully marked.
From the parking lot west of the Pronintsch farmstead, the hiking trail leads westwards to reach the alpine pastures after around one kilometer. This is also part of the long-distance hiking trail “From Glacier to Wine”.
