Fine food from our own winery
Our own winery in Kitzeck, in the middle of the South Styrian wine country includes, 4 hectares of vineyards around the house. What makes our white wines, red wines and sparkling wines so good? The steeply sloping vineyards in the best south and southwest locations, vines growing on primary rock soils, a lot of manual labor and the special microclimate in the Sausal. In addition, we also produce grape juice, schnapps, vintner sparkling wine and frizzante as well as white wine vinegar. Be sure to try them!
Really steep wine
A large gradient in the vineyard - we like that. On the one hand, because it offers a breathtaking panorama. On the other hand, because the grapes get a lot of sun and ripen particularly well. But with a slope of up to 78%, we are even talking about the steepest sites in southern Styria. In order to be able to deal with these slopes at all, the vines were largely planted or moved to terraced systems. And every year we can harvest the fruits of this painstaking work: really steep wine.
Soil
Compared to many soils in the South Styrian wine country, the Sausal has a unique feature: The primeval rock-shale soil. Whereas millions of years ago the primordial sea tended to deposit shells and the resulting limestone at lower altitudes, the slate soil has established itself in the higher areas of the Sausal - those that were rather rarely in contact with the primordial sea. This said Paleozoic primary rock slate (phylittic slate), in combination with the special micro-climate, ensures that we find unique conditions for wine plants in the Sausal.
Climate
The uniqueness of the Sausal is not only characterized by the multi-layered primary rock slate, but also the Sausal is truly special due to the Mediterranean Illyrian climate. In combination with the steepness of the vineyards and the high daytime temperatures, as well as the strong cooling during the night hours, optimal conditions are created for our wine plants! Due to the terraced layout of the vineyards and the corresponding optimal angle of incidence of the sun, the multi-layered slate tends to be warmed and can thus optimally supply the vines at night.
