Rudi Katholnig + Hans-Peter Steiner
The duo has been touring for several years and released a CD entitled “First Inspiration”.
The second production “REMEMBER” was released in summer 2024. Rudi Katholnig and Hans-Peter Steiner embark on an unusual journey in their new program. Under the title “Remember”, they have created a series of very personal and unusual forays into the musical past.
The special approach of the musicians, who have been working together since 2016, can be felt in each of these tracks. Dave Brubeck's “Unsquare Dance” and Paul Desmond's “Take Five” initially had a particular influence on their musical work, while Richard Galliano and Astor Piazzolla later expanded their musical world view decisively. Not forgetting the pop and rock songs of the 1970s and 80s, such as “Child in Time” or “Voyage” All these memories also shine through in Rudi Katholbig's own compositions. Rembember”, the song that gives the album its title, is his homage to Romed Mungenast, a great Austrian ‘Yenish’. The outstanding duo not only demonstrates a wide range in its repertoire, but also in its arrangements, which create space for improvisation.
Their playing is a musical journey through time, into the known and the unknown. And it is no coincidence that the trip down memory lane ends with the explicitly political “Fables of Faubus” by Charles Mingus. With this, the two musicians not only set instrumental.
