With “Vom Jandln zum Ernst,” Christian Muthspiel creates an extraordinary musical-literary experience to mark Ernst Jandl’s 100th birthday. Based on his acclaimed solo performance “für und mit ernst,” which combined Jandl’s pre-recorded voice with live music, Muthspiel now expands the concept into an impressive orchestral project. Together with the 17-piece ORJAZZTRA VIENNA, he crafts a full-length dialogue between Jandl’s powerful voice and the rich soundscapes of jazz.

Jandl, a master of sound poetry and an avid jazz enthusiast, is seamlessly integrated into the performance through carefully composed voice sequences, creating the illusion of a live interaction with the orchestra. Muthspiel, who performed with Jandl in the 1980s and 1990s, brings his deep artistic connection to the poet’s work into this tribute, resulting in a mesmerizing fusion of language, rhythm, and sound.
