Der Erde entrungen-Archäologie in der Südweststeiermark

Deutschlandsberg

How did the Lonspergers, who gave the town its name, live in the medieval castle of Deutschlandsberg and how was glass produced on the Koralpe centuries ago?

Many of these questions can be answered with the help of archaeology. Our region can proudly look back on 6500 years of history. For almost 40 years now, the Federal Office for the Protection of Monuments has been carrying out archaeological excavations in Styria in cooperation with various partners. Spectacular finds, including the oldest metal objects in Styria, Iron Age urn graves from Großklein and the Celtic sword warrior grave from Rassach are being presented to the public for the first time. Rescue excavations, such as in the town of Deutschlandsberg or along the Koralm Railway, have yielded new scientific results, which are highlighted in the exhibition.
