from Heiner Müller
Executioner A stands before the tribunal of the party on whose behalf he has liquidated the enemies of the communist revolution in the city of Vitebsk. The entire trial becomes present in retrospect, in dialog with a choir - a kind of proxy for the superior consciousness of the revolutionary collective.
To mark the 30th anniversary of Heiner Müller's (1929-1995) death, the theaterzentrum is showing one of the author's most poetic and contradictory texts, which was immediately banned in writing in the GDR and expressly classified as counter-revolutionary. It is spoken almost exclusively in chorus - the questioning of the collective and the individual in terms of content is thus also formally realized.
In “Mauser”, humanity and ideology, spontaneity versus loyalty to the line and emotion versus indoctrinated intellect clash; there are no more answers, only the question: What is a human being?
