2025 MARKS THE 200TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE BIRTH OF VIENNA'S ‘WALTZ KING’ JOHANN STRAUSS, WHOM THE WALTZ PEARLS WILL CELEBRATE MUSICALLY IN THEIR NEW YEAR'S CONCERTS WITH A PROGRAMME ALMOST EXCLUSIVELY DEDICATED TO HIM, A ‘FESTIVAL FOR JOHANN STRAUSS’. THE ANNIVERSARY OF THE DEATH OF THE STYRIAN COMPOSER ROBERT STOLZ WILL ALSO BE COMMEMORATED WITH A SMALL PROGRAMME OF HIS MOST FAMOUS MELODIES.
In October 2025, Johann Strauss (son) would have celebrated his 200th birthday. To mark the occasion, the Walzerperlen are focusing almost exclusively on the music of this famous Viennese composer and conductor in this year's concert programme. As a Styrian ensemble, the Walzerperlen will of course also honour the Graz composer Robert Stolz on the 50th anniversary of his death with a series of his most famous melodies.
Even during his lifetime, Strauss was a celebrated superstar and his music was an absolute hit with the masses. The ladies in particular succumbed to the music and charm of the ‘Waltz King’. The tours with his band took him beyond Europe to America and gave him the reputation of an ambassador for Austria as a musical country, a reputation that continues to this day. Many of his works, such as ‘Der Donauwalzer’, ‘Tritsch Tratsch Polka’ and ‘Die Fledermaus’, are perennial favourites in concert halls and opera houses all over the world.
The music of Johann Strauss also occupies a very central position in the repertoire of the Waltz Pearls and so we are delighted to host a glittering musical celebration in his honour - ‘A celebration for Johann Strauss’!
