The poor peasant boy Nemorino is madly in love with the attractive but moody lady of the manor, Adina. However, she is also idolized by the officer Belcore. Thankfully, the self-appointed doctor and quack Dulcamara also has a hand in this when he sells Nemorino a hearty red wine as an elixir of love, which is supposed to drive the ladies mad after him. Suddenly everyone is infatuated with this inconspicuous peasant boy, which Dulcamara himself cannot understand at all. After all, it was just a simple red wine - or was it?
For the summer of 2024, director Wolfgang Atzenhofer is relocating this adventurous story based on Eugene Scribe to the unique church square in St. Peter im Sulmtal, where the interested audience is offered a staged mixture of the TV format "Bauer sucht Frau" and the shooting of the new young farmer's calendar by the St. Peter rural youth. The audience seemingly becomes an integral part of the production as they sit in the middle of a stylized opera scene on the local village square and experience this summer comedy about love and jealousy as well as tractors and wine in a stylish setting. The Choryfeen singing group will also be a prominent part of this extraordinary opera production!
A classic musical theater comedy as a summery farmer's joke!
An open-air production by the music theater association "Das Opernkarussell" in cooperation with the Styrian rural youth, the Chamber of Agriculture and the Farmers' Union
