Upper Austria in 1750: Agnes, newly married, finds no place in her husband's strange world. The deeply religious and highly sensitive woman withdraws more and more into herself, away from the peasant world of work and everyday life. A shocking act of violence finally seems to be the only way out of her inner prison.
