Sommerkino: "Orgelkino" Der müde Tod

Organ cinema with live music in the parish church of St. Stefan | Organ: Ulrich Walther | A film from the collection of the Friedrich Wilhelm Murnau Foundation in Wiesbaden.

In St. Stefan ob Stainz, the black-and-white film is set to music live on the organ of the parish church by organist Ulrich Walther.

In the poetic masterpiece DER MÜDE TOD, a young woman (Lil Dagover) wants her deceased lover back. The folksong-like parable about love that is stronger than death is also seen as a reflection on the traumas of the First World War. The expressionistic silent film captivates with its visual language. The film was shot by Decla-Bioscop AG (Berlin) in Neubabelsberg. The producer was Erich Pommer. Today, DER MÜDE TOD is on the list of films of historical value and worthy of support from the German Cinematheque Association.
