Bocksruck Runde von Unzmarkt-Frauenburg
“The legendary”
This hike can be reached by train and shows you the beauty of the Mur mountains in a simple way. The Frauenburg ruins along the way are particularly impressive and tell their stories. The summit cross at Bocksruck at 1760 meters welcomes you beautifully.
Highlight: Burgruin Frauenburg, Summit cross am Bocksruck
The Bocksruck is located in the north-west of Unzmarkt-Frauenburg at an altitude of 1763 m and surprises with its view, the large summit cross and a cozy wooden bench for resting and lingering. Here you are on the Murberge mountain range, which borders the Mur to the south and the Wölzer Tauern to the north. The hikes from the Mur valley mostly lead through wooded areas, with this hike up the Bocksruck taking you along roads with great views. The higher you get, the more fascinating the view from the open alpine pastures at around 1700 m above sea level. The ascent is steady, allowing you to find a good walking rhythm before you can enjoy the panorama and tranquillity on the wide alpine pastures of the summit area.

More information
From Judenburg via the B317 (24 km, approx. 30 minutes)
From Murau via the B96 (26 km, approx. 30 minutes)
From Unzmarkt station (1), 730 m, we walk under the underpass under the station grounds, keep right and continue parallel to the tracks. At the crossroads, keep left uphill and continue along the regulated Frauenburger Bach stream and Burgstraße until you see the "Footpath to the church and castle" entrance on the left. We keep left, follow the path and the covered staircase up to the Jakobskirche church (2), 874 m. From the church we return to the road and shortly afterwards can make a detour to Frauenburg Castle. The hiking trail leads uphill along the asphalt road, mostly with great views. A few farms and houses line the ascent until, after approx. 3.5 km, we pass between a house and farm and continue along a gravel road. Initially still with good views, continue along the forest road through wooded areas to the Sattelbach bridge (3), 1325 m. We branch off to the right and follow the marked hiking trail, which leads continuously uphill to a clearing (4), 1600m. Here we follow the forest road uphill to the right, reach the alpine pastures and walk the last section uphill along a fence until we reach the extensive summit area of the Bocksruck (5), 1763 m, after a few meters in altitude. The descent follows the ascent route.
