Grand Panorama Tour - Labyrinth to the Giant

Open
The giant in this case, as in the Großradl panoramic tour, is the range of hills of the Kapuner Kogel. The labyrinth, on the other hand, is new.
This is the Greith. The Greith is the area consisting of countless hills and ditches, bordered by Eibiswald to the southwest, Wies and Gleinstätten to the north, Großklein to the northeast, St. Johann im Saggautal to the east and Oberhaag to the south, with St. Ulrich im Greith sitting at its centre. All these hills and ditches are interconnected by roads, small streets and paths, which in themselves form a labyrinth and cycling paradise that only the most native of locals know without gaps. The first part of this panoramic cycle tour leads through the southern part of this labyrinth. And it opens up completely new perspectives on the diversity of south-western Styria for racing, touring, e-bike or mountain bike riders. From the Koralm-Speik over the Graz Schöckl, from the Eichberg to the Remschnigg and from the Kapuner-Kogel to the Soboth, the incomparable 360-degree panorama served up to the cycling holidaymaker on this tour.

The "Great Panorama Tour around Eibiswald" - from the labyrinth to the giant is the tour of your choice if you

  • fancy a varied, challenging, but not overstraining tour, want to be surprised by countless new perspectives on the Schilcherland,
  • want to visit the beautiful villages of Wies (one of the most beautiful marketplaces in the region) and St. Ulrich im Greith (renowned cultural centre Greith-Haus) with only short detours from the tour,
  • want to combine the Small Panorama Tour 2 with the Panorama Tour around Eibiswald for a somewhat longer, scenically all the more impressive mountain bike tour,
  • are prepared to enjoy one of the very best "Backhenderln" in all of Styria at the Hofjäger Inn in Oberlatein, which is located directly on the route (opening times and registration under 03466 42572),
  • get to know the Glirsch winery, one of the most traditional Schilcher producers in south-western Styria, want to catch incomparable views of the impressive range of hills of the Kapunerkogel,
  • or want to take your new mountain bike or e-bike out for a somewhat more challenging test ride.

Plan your journey via Google Maps to the starting point of the tour: www.google.at/maps

Directions from Graz / Vienna to Lieboch:

Take the motorway towards Graz (A2) to the Lieboch exit. Continue on the B76 in the direction of Eibiswald.

Directions from Carinthia:

On the motorway in the direction of Klagenfurt (A2) as far as the Lieboch exit. Continue on the B76 in the direction of Eibiswald.

Directions from Leibnitz:

Drive via Arnfels, Oberhaag to Eibiswald.

Directions from Slovenia/Eibiswald:

Drive over the Radlpass on the B76 towards Eibiswald.

  • Start from the starting point at the church in Eibiswald in a northerly direction to the roundabout, briefly on the Radlpass federal road and up to the Buschenschank Pichlippi, then on the "Alte Straße" in the direction of Wies.
  • The first ascent is quite crisp, but not too long and rewards you at the top with the first fantastic views to the south of the Kapuner Kogel and to the east as far as the Eichberg.
  • Above Wies, head in the direction of the Höllberg and finally descend to Wies via the Höllberg and Haselberg.
  • Just before the railway crossing in Wies, turn sharp right towards Aug. A gentle climb follows along the route of the Welschlauf to Pitschgauegg, from where you surf on varied waves in the direction of Ortisei.
  • Before reaching Ortisei, you turn south towards Tombach at the Neuwirt inn, which again offers completely new views and vistas of southwestern Styria.
  • From Tombach you roll down via Obergreith to Unterhaag, from where you ride for just under two kilometres on the B69 towards Eibiswald.
  • The second striking section of the route begins in Bischofegg. From the Bischofegg settlement, the long climb of this cycle tour begins over the Lateinberg, past the Hofjäger inn, over to Oberlatein and finally over the Kornriegl in the opposite direction of the Small Panorama Tour 2 to the Glirsch winery.
  • When you arrive at Glirsch, 99% of the altitude difference of this tour has been covered. From Glirsch you crank back along the foot of the giant to the beautiful Stindlweber farm.
  • From Stindlweber you can let your legs hang over long stretches until the finish, because it rolls over Stammeregg and Sterglegg over a small off-road section to the Bartlschneider inn, almost by itself back down to Eibiswald.
  • On this section it is advisable to ride deliberately slowly in order to let the incomparable landscape of the Schilcherland take effect on you once again.
