Schirchleralm Tour - We only have to want...

Challenging tour over the Hochmasser, Garanas and Schmuckbauernwirt to the Schirchleralm with incomparable views of southwest Styria.
The Schirchleralm tour is a real blast. And that in many respects. Firstly, because with 1,300 metres of ascent, it demands a lot of fitness. Then, because the mountain bikers have incomparable views of south-western Styria on both the climbs and the downhills. And last but not least, because the Schirchleralm has one of the best Häferlkaffees and Topfenstrudel in the entire Southern Alps. At least, that's how it feels on this bike tour after the demanding climb over the Hochmasser, Garanas and Schmuckbauernwirt to the Schirchleralm. All that remains is the motto of "We are heroes": We only have to want to. Because that's the only way to enjoy this fantastic tour.

The "Schirchleralm Tour - We just have to want to" is the bike tour of your choice if you

  • want to put a really cool, long, panorama-intensive climb in your cycling legs,
  • are looking for an extremely varied tour with countless twists and turns, which always offer new, surprising views and insights into Western Styria,
  • want to really test their e-bike,
  • want to dive deep into the Garana Valley and feel a very special sense of solitude and security. You can feel what is meant by this when you are there and when you take a little time to let the area and the rising emotions take effect on you.
  • want to visit the Schirchleralm, a super rustic alpine hut, and enjoy unique homemade delicacies there,
  • want to visit the spectacular 60-metre-high waterfall of the Weisse Sulm,
  • if you want to stop off at the famous Schmuckbauerwirt and take in a unique new perspective of south-western Styria and Schilcherland,
  • and want to see the most beautiful place in Austria 2020, the Stutz Mühle.

Drive over the Radlpass on the B76 towards Eibiswald.

  • From the starting point at the church in Eibiswald, start in a northerly direction, up to the Buschenschank Pichlippi and switch over to Haiden on the Kowaldhöhe.
  • Pass the Peiserhof winery and descend to Vordersdorf via a casual gravel road downhill. In Vordersdorf, the climb up to Hochmasser begins. It is advisable not to waste your energy on this first section of the long climb up to the Schirchleralm. Instead, enjoy the wonderful view to the southwest to the Kapun Ridge, to Greith and over to Eichberg-Trautenburg.
  • After the Hochmasser inn, the route enters a very varied gravel section with two super-steep ramps, each with a gradient of more than 20 percent. Here you need good legs or a strong battery. The good thing is that the stitches are not too long and there is a flat section in between that allows for a short breather.
  • The reward follows after these "drudge sections" in the form of a new panorama across to the Buchenberg and the Soboth. Motto: Let it work.
  • At the Glockenwirt, the mountain bike tour turns into the L650 state road, which leads up to St. Anna. After about one kilometre, however, the route turns right into Garanas. A short downhill gives your legs, which may already be a little tired, a short rest.Whereby: It is a good idea to look for a spot in this section through the Garanas valley, to treat yourself to a little more rest and let this wonderful area take its effect on you.In the last part of the long ascent, the bike tour leads from Garanas via the Schmuckbauerwirt to the Schirchleralm.
  • After the obligatory break in the alpine pasture, it goes back to the Schmuckbauerwirt, past the waterfall of the White Sulm and Koch's berries down into the Wiel and out to Wielfresen.
  • Here it is worth taking a detour to the winner of "9Places 9Treasures" - the Strutz Mühle - Austria's most beautiful place 2020.
  • Continue through the courtyard of the Buschenschank Haubensima down to Wernersdorf and from there via Pörbach and past the Gasthof Filatsch back to Eibiswald.
Take your time and be sure to enjoy a homemade pastry at the Schirchleralm.

At Wielfresen, take a detour to the Strutz Mühle - Austria's most beautiful place 2020.
