Eisenerz

Visitors can reach the popular sight from the old town. In addition to a great view of the town - the perfect place for a snapshot - visitors can expect a small, fine exhibition in which they can learn everything about the history of the stratum tower.

Visible from afar, the tower is one of the landmarks of the mountain town and its face contributes to the unmistakable townscape of Eisenerz.

Planned in 1581 by the ironmasters of Eisenerz as a simple guard house, the tower with a bell was supposed to take the miners to work. Instead of the planned simple guardhouse, a stately Renaissance-style tower was built, in which from 1585 tower watchmen were on guard duty day and night in the tower room in case of fire and flooding in the valley.

The function of the tower will be examined in more detail at the exhibition. Cannon shots, flags during the day and lanterns at night as well as a different number of bells will be topics. The current tower guard, Hermann Buder, also tells interesting things about the former underground mine, today's open pit and explains the function of a wheelwork using a model.

Visitors can reach the popular sight via short serpentines or a way of the cross from the old town.
