HWW-Hiking route: Aspang - Mönichkirchner Schwaig - Mönichkirchen - Schuh-Wirt (circular trail)

This HWW hiking route is part of the Wechselland Historical Long-Distance Hiking Trail (HWW), which tells the story of Wechselland along more than 100 HWW stations. More information can be found at www.wechsel-wandern.at.
This HWW hiking route leads from Aspang town center via Langegg to Kogl and on to Mönichkirchner Schwaig, Mönichkirchen to Hartberg and Schuh-Wirt back to Aspang. Along the HWW route, you can learn about the history of winter sports in Wechselland at the Mönichkirchner Schwaig HWW station, as Wechselland is known far beyond the eastern edge of the Alps for its numerous winter sports destinations and ski lifts.

Arrival by car
  • Follow the highway A2.
  • Exit Edlitz-Aspang: Take exit 77 Edlitz-Aspang.
  • B55 towards Aspang: After the exit, turn left onto the B55 Wechsel Straße towards Aspang.
  • Through Zöbern: Drive through the village of Zöbern and follow the signs towards Aspang-Markt.
  • Enter Aspang-Markt: After about 10 km you will reach Aspang-Markt.
The tour is not signposted throughout. Route guidance with app recommended.
  • Starting point: Aspang town center.
  • Hike via Langegg to Kogl.
  • Continue to the Mönichkirchner Schwaig.
  • Descent to Mönichkirchen and on to Hartberg.
  • Return to Aspang via the Schuh-Wirt.
