Starting point: Klausnerberg-Säge (1.313m).
From the parking lot, follow the forest road, hiking trail 792 through the Ranten valley. Shortly before the Rantensee, turn right at at rock with a memorial and signpost in the direction of the Predigtstuhl (2.543m) would be possible. The trail leads uphill, with a magnificent view of the Rantensee and the Rantental valley until you come to another lake. There, at a fork in the road, turn right following the 702 to the Hinterkarscharte (2.274m).
Now follows the most interesting pat of the hike along the ridge and mountainside with some small mountain lakes over grass and scree fields, always with a magnificent view of the Predigtstuhl and into the Kleinsölktal. Down to the right, the path passes small lakes, a longer piece up and down to the Hubenbauertörl (2.051m). Continuing first east, then south, it goes down the slope. Passing a brick monument over pastures, crossing and small streams, after a while you reach the forest and soon the Schöttelhütte. Follow the trail 789 out of the valley to the fork Hubenbauerntörl-Hinterkarscharte or Rrudol-Schober-Hütte. Follow the slightly descending road down to the Etrachsee.
