The district capital of Weiz is located in eastern Styria and is very easy to reach via the A2 from Vienna (approx. 2 hrs) and Graz from Graz (approx. 30 min). Arrival from Vienna and Graz: On the A2 from Vienna, take motorway exit 161/ Gleisdorf West in the direction of the B 54/B64. Follow the B65 / Gleisdorf federal road until you reach the B54 / Wechselbundesstraße. At the roundabout take the second exit to the B64 / Rechberg-Bundesstraße. After about 15 km you will reach the district capital Weiz.

Arriving from Graz via the main road: take Kaiser-Franz-Josef-Kai and Wickenburggasse to Jahngasse / B67a. Follow the B72 to Weiz and take the exit towards Weiz-West.

Route planner

  • From the main square in Weiz we reach the castle tavern in Thannhausen via the Weizberg.
  • The hike (no. 762) now leads along the Dörfler stream to Oberdorf and then via Oberaichen and Ponigl-Süd to the forester's lodge in Ponigl.
  • Afterwards, a forest road branches off to the right and leads to Eibisberg (no more markings after the forester's lodge!).

Variants for the way back: Hans-Riedler-Zetzweg no. 11 via Hohen Zetz - Wittgruberhof - Raas-Dorf - Thannhausen to Weiz (12.4 km approx. 3 1/2 hrs.); trail no. 745 via Gschaid - Patschagipfel (no. 745a) - Vogelhütte - Naas-Dorf - Sturmberg to Weiz ( 12 km approx. 3 1/2 hrs.); trail no. 745 to Gschaidm trail no. 763 via Patschasattel - Vogelhütte - Landscha to Weiz (14.2 km, approx. 4 hrs.).
