We leave the train station Mautern and follow the main street into the town center. Via the main square we reach Bergmanngasse at the end of which we turn left onto Mauterner Berg. From here we follow the signs along a fort road. Soon a well-marked trail winds through the forest and we are rewarded at the summit with a beautiful view of Bremstein, Gösseck and the Liesing valley.
Back we go via the Mauterner Berg (924m) back to the train station Mautern.
On hot summer days a jump into the cool water of the Mautern alpine pool is recommended.
