Edlseer Hoamat hiking trail, Birkfeld

"Der Edlseer" HOAMAT hiking trail is an approx. 12,1 km long circular trail, starting from Birkfeld in the Joglland - Waldheimat region, in honor of the Edlseer who live there.
"Der Edelseer" HOAMAT hiking trail is located in the market town of Birkfeld, the home town of the well-known music group. Along the way there are always different stations with information about the band.  But also information about the community of Birkfeld and especially about the work of Peter Rosegger, the most famous poet of the region. On the hiking trail we also pass the popular excursion destination, the Joglland Seehütte of the Töglhofer family. Here you can not only taste culinary delicacies, the place also invites you to linger.

Detailed information on how to get here can be found here.

  • We start at the Hoamat Chapel in Birkfeld
  • Along the Hoamat hiking trail we walk over the Waisenbach towards the train station
  • There we walk a piece on the old railroad road, which now also serves as a bike path
  • Over an old viaduct we go to the first ascent in direction Galgenwald
  • On the way there are always interesting boards about the history of Birkfeld or the Edlseers
  • We continue in Waisenegg in the direction of the Tiefengraber family - there we have to cross the road
  • From there we walk through a piece of forest back to the old railroad road of the Feistritztalbahn/R8 cycle path
  • After the 6th station we reach the other bank of the Feistritz via a bridge
  • There we have the opportunity to fortify ourselves with local dishes
  • Now we cross the B72 and continue on to the most challenging ascent of the hiking trail
  • Over a small pasture we walk in the direction of the old Strallegger path
  • Now we are in Strallegg and we go back towards the old mill in the direction of Gschaid
  • On the way we pass by the wagon ranch of the Mosbacher family, where we can also refresh ourselves
  • Afterwards we continue through a beautiful piece of forest to the old Stadlhofer mill
  • Over a rustic wooden bridge we reach the village Gschaid
  • A comfortable ascent now leads us past the family hammer vulgo Stadlhofer
  • When we pass through a piece of forest and cross the small brook, we are on the last hill of the Hoamat hiking trail
  • After the forest we come shortly before the descent to a meadow
  • Now the descent begins over a forest path - here is the last station of the Edlseer Hoamatweg
  • When we reach the valley, we hike along the Feistritz river
  • At the crossing of the Miesenbach we have reached the store Hoamat-Tracht
  • From here we are only a few minutes walk from the starting point.
In Birkfeld there is also a store, HOAMAT-Tracht, where we can immerse ourselves a little in the world of the Edlseer.
