Route description:
From the monastery or the center in
Mautern (712 m) we walk uphill via the
Eselsbergweg through the populated area. Along meadow and forest paths, the trail climbs steadily uphill to a high fence crossing (1140 m). We follow the
Rittersteig, an easily accessible path that leads through steep, rocky and wooded terrain. We reach the highest point of this stage on the Rittersteig at approx. 1250 meters before continuing downhill (very steep in places) to the grotto and the Kammerstein ruins. At
Kammern im Liesingtal (664 m) we reach the valley floor again. In the center we keep left uphill and walk along the Kalvarienbergweg and continue on the natural panorama and Marterlweg to Dirnsdorf. On side roads with little traffic, we walk towards Kaisertal and the next 9 kilometers in constant ups and downs via
Mochl (762 m),
Schardorf, Putzenberg, Gimplach and Kurzheim (702 m) to
Hafning (in the north of Trofaiach). We follow the Krumpenbach approx. 5 kilometers into the valley and walk uphill via the
Hirnalm (934 m) to the
Barbarakreuz (1058 m), before finally heading downhill to
Vordernberg (839 m).
