Mödringalm -marked snowshoe trail in the Triebental valley

Easy alpine hike along a marked snowshoe trail from Bergerhube to Mödringalm in the Murtal adventure region.

The Triebental has turned out to be an "insider's tip for guaranteed snow" in the Murtal region in recent years. The location of the glacial valley and the weather or snow influence from the north, lead to the fact that one finds here deepest winter, even if in the south of the region Murtal hardly a snowflake is to be seen. Therefore, a tip for all snowshoe hikers and winter sports enthusiasts: There is a webcam from the Bergerhube in the Triebental, which can give a good impression of the snow situation. Basically, the Bergerhube, which has been managed by the two innkeepers Marianne and Siegi for many years, is a popular starting point for hikes. Once you get to know this hiking area, you will always discover new possibilities for yourself. For the winter tours we ask all snowshoe hikers to stick to the designated snowshoe tours and especially to avoid the winter dormancy zones, thus supporting the motto "nature together".

More information

From Trieben an der Pyhrn freeway A 9 via B114 in the direction of Hohentauern. After about 8 km turn left into the Triebental. The Bergerhube with the parking lot is located at the end of the Triebental road (14 km, approx. 20 minutes).

By car to snowshoe hiking - a few things to watch out for!

  • Good winter tires are an absolute MUST!
  • Ice scraper, snow broom, de-icer for the door locks and a small shovel belong to the basic equipment.
  • Put snow chains and a tow rope in the car, even if you are not good with them yourself. Helping and knowledgeable hikers are always available on the mountain!
  • Clear the car completely of snow and ice, especially sweep off the roof of the car completely.
  • When parking, make sure you leave room for other motorists.
  • Always park so that the rest of the roadway remains clear for cars, logging trucks, and snow removal vehicles.
  • Find out about the snow situation on the access road or parking facilities before setting off. (hut host, webcams).

From the parking lot, we walk directly between the guesthouse and outbuilding of the Bergerhube (1), 1198 m, and follow the pink signposts in the direction of the south. The Mödringbach stream also serves as orientation, which we follow for the time being on the left bank slightly uphill through the forest. At the waypoint Kote (2), 1295 m, we hike right in the direction of Gamskögel and Knaudachtörl. Continue slightly uphill, over bridges and through a sparse forest, where we have a beautiful view of the backdrop of the Gamskögel. We follow the pink directional arrows and pass a small power station, where we keep slightly to the right and continue through the forest. After a while the trail meets a forest road, which we follow to the left. After a short time a path branches off to the right (3), 1450 m, and leads to the large clearing below the Mödringhütte (4), 1467 m. A beautiful photo motif opens up: The wooden huts in the foreground and the striking relief of the Gamskögel. Passing the Mödring hut, we walk along the hiking trail (see red-white-red markings), to the open spaces of the Mödringalm. On a larch tree you can see the pink location board with the inscription Mödringalm (5), 1550m. The descent follows the ascent track, leaving us free to make our own tracks in the gentle landscape, always respecting the designated rest areas and the ban on entering young forest.

Another marked snowshoe trail, starting from the Bergerhube, leads to the Moaralm.

There is no public transport connection to the starting point of the tour.
