Wintery Marterlweg Route 3

48 wayside shrine, chapels and wayside shrines - 4 routes comprise the scenically and culturally highly interesting Marterlweg in the market town of Kammern im Liesingtal, Styria.
Under the title "Marterlweg" we find a 52-kilometer-long hiking trail that leads past 48 wayside shrines and wayside crosses and is divided into 4 individual circuits.

Each of the wayside shrines tells its own story and is usually located along the path or on private property. The wayside shrines are lovingly cared for by their owners throughout the year.

Route 3 (red) offers a lot of variety and leads past a total of 12 wayside shrines, chapels and wayside shrines. Especially worth seeing is the Ulrich church in Seiz.

A detailed description of the wayside shrines/crosses can be found in the Marterlweg map, which is also available online or can be taken free of charge at the market square.

More information

Coming from Linz:

Take the freeway exit on the Pyhrnautobahn A9 at the Landzeit rest stop, there a connecting road leads to the B113, which then leads to Seiz on the right. At the Landgasthof Gietl turn left onto the L116 in the direction of Edling/Trofaiach. Approx. 1 km in a long right-hand bend is a turn into the elevated road to the starting point of the tour.

Coming from Graz/Vienna/Klagenfurt:

At the St. Michael freeway junction, take the A9 Pyrnautobahn north (towards Salzburg/Linz) and about 4 km later take the Traboch exit. At the traffic circle take the 3rd exit in the direction of Kammern im Liesingtal. On the federal road B113 you drive approx. 5 km to the village Seiz, there you turn right on the L116 in the direction of Edling/Trofaiach. Approx. 1 km in a long right turn is a turn into the high road to the starting point of the tour.

The varied tour begins in the district of Seiz at the chapel of the Mitter family.(33) The starting point and due to the tour also the end point and includes 12 different wayside shrines and chapels as well as the Ulrich Church Seiz, which is located directly on the route. The path continues to the district of Mochl and then to Glarsdorf.

It is also no secret that hiking makes you hungry and thirsty. Of course, along the Marterlweg there are quite a few "rest stops" as well as resting benches where you can linger and recharge your batteries (see map legend). Directly at the starting point you will also find a pictorial description of all 4 tours through Kammern as well as a hiking map for free withdrawal.

Robert, head of Gasthof Judmayer and GenussReich partner, awaits hungry guests in the main street in Kammern with authentic, regional cuisine. The Reiting ox, Liesingtal trout or char and regional potatoes are accompanied by the best Styrian wines.
Timetables and travel information can be found directly at: Austrian Federal Railways (ÖBB), Styrian State Railways (STLB) or Verbund Linie.

With the BusBahnBim app of Verbund Linie, timetable information has never been easier: all connections by bus, train and streetcar in Austria can be queried by entering locations and/or addresses, stops or important points.

The app is available as a free app for smartphones (Android, iOS) - on Google Play and in the App Store.

Parking for cars directly at the starting point (see directions). For tour groups with bus use the possibility of the parking lot of the Landgasthof Gietl (this is ideal as the starting and ending point of the tour).
