Local producers, gourmet shops and markets

Enjoy regional products in ERZBERG LEOBEN

What could be better than getting to know new places, talking to locals, and discovering regional delicacies at the same time? At the gourmet shops and markets in the ERZBERG LEOBEN region, visitors get the opportunity to do just that.

ERZBERG LEOBEN – the centre of culinary pleasure in Styria

What only few people know is that Erzberg, in the heart of Styria, has always been affectionately known as the "Styrian loaf of bread". And far beyond this loaf of bread stretches the GenussReich, the realm of culinary pleasure, where you can find Styrian farmer's bread and many other delicacies from the region.

The numerous producers, gourmet shops, handicrafts and gourmet businesses in the GenussReich stand for good taste and their connectedness to the region. They all focus on sustainable and traceable production methods as well as exquisite taste. Regional delicacies include:

  • bacon and ham
  • game and fish specialities
  • the finest honey
  • pumpkin seed oil
  • cheese made from cow's and goat's milk, curd cheese and farmer's mozzarella cheese
  • vegetables, fruit and berries, which are also processed into juices, schnaps, jams and more
  • home-grown crops, from which tasty bread and pasta are made
  • herbal salt, teas and spice blends made with herbs from the region

The producers not only delight the palates of gourmets with their products – they also look forward to having visitors. What’s more, the local farms often also offer hikes with alpacas or llamas and riding lessons.

Farmers' market in Leoben

Every Tuesday and Friday morning, the church square and the surrounding streets in Leoben's city centre are bustling with activity. Because that’s when local producers set up their tables and booths at the farmers’ market and spoil locals and visitors with their regional delights. The offers include fresh fruit and vegetables, flowers, meat, cheese, and pastries.

For more than 30 years, the farmers' market has been a fixed point of regional produce supply. Every now and then, there is something special going on at the market. Live music is played, special delicacies such as Xeis beer, Sturm (fermented grape juice) or chestnuts are offered, and tastings or baking lessons are held.

Take a seat and enjoy regional culinary delights

Local culinary establishments benefit from the home-grown products as well. With great passion, the inns and restaurants turn them into Styrian delicacies and create unforgettable moments of culinary pleasure for their guests. If you want to round off the experience with another regional “fixture”, you should ask for a glass of refreshing Gösser beer.
