Seckauer Zinken

Dense forests, a beautiful mountain lake and a striking lookout point above the Murtal adventure region are cornerstones of this beautiful hike! Among the peaks of the Seckau Alps, the Zinken holds a special position, because the view of the entire Upper Styria is unique. The view stretches across the Mur valley to the Seetaler Alps and all the way to the Gleinalpe. As this tour has an alpine character, appropriate fitness and equipment are required.
From the Steinmühle car park, we hike along the well-marked hiking trail along the Zinkenbach stream to the Goldlacke junction. The rest of the trail to the Goldlacke, 1958 m, which is embedded in a wide cirque, is varied and leads above the tree line. We hike in a westerly direction and overcome the steep step to the Seckauer Zinken. The descent is via the southern gully to the Goldlacke junction and back to the starting point.

More information

Take the Murtalstraße S36 Knittelfeld Ost exit to Kobenz, at the roundabout take the Seckau exit, in Seckau pass the monastery worth seeing and continue to Gasthof Steinmühle. (Bus stop).
The starting point of this hike is the Steinmühle inn (928m) in Gaal. The marked hiking trail no. 34 first leads along the ditch, then climbs continuously through the forest, past a forester's lodge and crossing several forest roads, paying attention to the markings. After about 2 hours, the high forest ends and you reach the mountain pine zone, which offers a view of the surrounding mountains. After another altitude step with beautiful flowering alpine bushes, you come to a turnoff that leads in the direction of the Seckauer Zinken - here you could make a detour to the Goldlacke (1958m). The path further up the Zinken leads in a westerly direction up the ridge to the summit.

2nd ascent options: South gully (not marked, snow possible until mid-summer).

Once at the Seckauer Zinken, you have the option of descending to Seckau via the Hämmerkogel, the Schweigerhöhe (2,214m), the Lamprechthöhe (2,114m) and Maria Schnee.
Arrival by bus and train: by train to Knittelfeld station; continue with regional bus line 844 to the Puchschachen Steinmühle stop.
