Blossom hike on the Häuselberg - The Kokolanzen blooms

For all those hikers who are already turning their backs on winter, we have the perfect spring tip in the Erzberg Leoben region - a blossom hike up the Häuselberg.
The 731 m high Häuselberg is a popular recreational area on the southwestern outskirts of Leoben. A special habitat, which has been under nature conservation since 1997, can be found on the steep and partly wall-like sloping south side of the hill. In small steps, crevices and protrusions of this limestone wall, the Styrian Kitchen Butterfly is currently blooming - a flowering plant that is popularly known as "Kokolanzen". With this tip we connect the bird trail with the Häuselbergrunde to enjoy the flower location from above and also from below. Attention: Keep enough distance from the rock face!

More information

From Graz: A9 to the St. Michael traffic circle, exit St.Michael, continue on the B116 to Häuselberg.

From Vienna: S6 to the Leoben Ost exit, continue on the B116 to Häuselberg

We start at the restaurant Port 361 and orient ourselves by the signs "Vogelkundlicher Lehrpfad". We go uphill to the right, past the elevated tank and shortly after we see the entrance to the trail on the right, which we follow uphill. At the next crossing we turn right and continue on the path until we reach the top of the rock face. Here we can see the pasque flower in the rock and also have a wonderful view. We continue to the left and hike downhill along the ridge for the next kilometer until we reach the populated area. Here the bird trail ends and continues as the Häuselbergrunde. After a few meters on the asphalt road downhill, we branch off to the right to continue on a wide sidewalk that runs above the Mura River. At the next intersection we keep to the right and come to a rest area with display boards. In between we go slightly uphill, passing below the mighty rock walls and continuing around the Häuselberg back to our starting point.
If you only want to hike to the top to admire the bloom, it's best to follow the bird trail up and back down.
