Schöckl - Graz's popular mountain

The Schöckl is rightly known as Graz's local mountain and offers unique experiences for all tastes and nature enthusiasts all year round.
The suggested tour is just one of many ways to hike the Schöckl and connects Graz with St. Radegund. The "Long Trail" leads via the rustic Johann-Waller-Hütte to the western summit and the Schöckl Plateau with its diverse attractions, games and sports facilities for the whole family and the rich gastronomic offer with six catering establishments. For the less sporty, the Schöckl cable car is the ideal alternative and a barrier-free circular trail allows everyone to enjoy the unique mountain panorama.

More information

From the bus station "Fuß der Leber", take the newly created hiking trail 20a briefly up the steep Leberstraße; then keep right and follow the forest path to Kalkleitenstraße. Follow the asphalt road briefly to the left for 300 m and then turn right along trail 20a to trail 20 towards Göstinger Forsthaus. From here, hike along trail 730 to the Johann-Waller-Hütte in approx. 15 minutes. After a leisurely stop for refreshments, climb up to the Schöckl West summit in approx. 45 minutes. From there, it's another 15 minutes to the top station of the Schöckl cable car on the Schöckl plateau. You can take this down to St. Radegund. After the mountain station, head east along the plateau to the Johannes Chapel and on to the eastern summit / Schöcklkopf. If you don't want to take the cable car down into the valley, follow the adventure circular route down to the Halterhütte and from there take the normal route 21 downhill to the valley station in St. Radegund.

The entire hike can also be done in reverse order from St. Radegund to Stattegg.

Worthwhile trails lead over the Schöckl from all directions and the good public accessibility allows you to combine great day and multi-day hikes from Graz, St. Radegund, Semriach, Passail and more. An overnight stay in the comfortable Stubenberghaus or in the rustic Johann-Waller-Hütte is a unique experience for young and old.
