Tremmelberg Überschreitung

“The achievable one”:
The hike begins at Knittelfeld train station and leads through the town of Knitteldeld. Past the Brauni Chapel, the route follows an ascending path through the forest to the “Turm im Gebirge” observation tower on the Tremmelberg. Another highlight is the descent to the historic Calvary Church. The trail ends in Seckau.

Highlight: Tower in the mountains, information boards, Seckau Abbey

We start at the train station or the main square in Knittelfeld and walk along Frauengasse to Kapuzinerplatz. After a short distance, we reach Brunnerkreuz-Allee, where we walk over the highway overpass to Braunikapelle. The path now leads us into a wooded area, where we follow a wide forest road to the turn-off to the Calvary Church. The marked hiking trail leads through a beautiful landscape and crosses several forest roads. Finally, we reach the impressive “Turm im Gebirge” lookout tower (1194 m), which offers us a fantastic view of the surrounding area. From there, the trail leads slightly downhill to the Calvary Church. The descent leads through the forest and past information boards and Stations of the Cross. At the end of the trail, we reach the populated area of Seckau, where we reach the monastery and the bus station.

We start from the train station or from the main square, 646 m, in Knittelfeld, which is only a few minutes' walk away, and walk along Frauengasse to Kapuzinerplatz. At the crossroads, turn right - a few meters along Kärntner Straße - and then immediately turn left into Anton-Regner-Straße. Passing the district administration building, we come to a crossroads where we continue to the right. From now on you will see the yellow signposts “Tremmelberg - Seckau - Gaal” with trail number 02. After a few minutes, we come to the start of Brunnerkreuz-Allee. We follow the lime and sycamore avenue slightly uphill, cross the highway overpass and reach the Braunikapelle chapel, 688 m. We continue straight ahead along the road until we reach a forest road junction at the edge of the forest. From now on, the hiking trail leads through wooded areas. A short stretch along the path and we reach a wide forest road, which we now follow for approx. 1 km. We follow the Calvary Church signpost and turn left. The marked hiking trail leads along a path, crosses a forest road and ends on the access road to the farm vlg. Böcksteiner farm, 810 m. We walk past the farm in the immediate vicinity, continuing on the forest road until the hiking trail branches off to the right in a left-hand bend. The junction is easy to recognize thanks to a large stone almond. From now on, we walk more or less along a ridge - always uphill - until we come to a wide forest road. We keep to the right and immediately see the start of the path. As there are now several paths, orientation is not clear due to the lack of markings. We turn right along the ridge and see the red-white-red markings again. We reach a forest road again via hollow paths. From here, we already have a beautiful view of our destination, the “Turm im Gebirge” observation tower. We now hike comfortably uphill, always following the forest road, until we have reached the height and now have only a few meters to the left to the lookout tower on the Tremmelberg (4), 1194 m, in front of us. From the impressive “Turm im Gebirge” lookout tower, we follow the forest road slightly downhill towards the Calvary Church. After a short stretch on the forest road, we reach the Calvary Church. We walk along the well-marked path, which leads past several information boards. The path is initially flat, but gradually becomes steeper. On our way down, we follow the steep hollow path downhill as we cross several forest roads. We always stay on the marked path, which leads us directly downhill until we reach a forest road junction with information boards and stations of the cross. At the forest road junction, we turn left and follow the path downhill through the forest. After a while, the terrain opens up and we walk along meadows. Finally, we reach a small parking lot near a wooden hut and cross a stream, from where we follow the gravel road downhill. We pass some houses and follow an asphalt road until we reach a crossroads. Keep left here and continue straight ahead. At the distinctive crossroads with the dyer's cross, we turn right. The path leads us through the populated area of Seckau. We walk past meadows and residential buildings until we reach the center of Seckau. We continue past the monastery and the municipal office to the bus station, where our hike ends.
From the end point in Seckau, you can easily take the bus back to Knittelfeld. At the end of your tour, enjoy a sweet treat at the Regner bakery or treat yourself at the Gasthof zur Post.
