Life in the castle - how did the lady of the castle live in a castle, did the cook really swing the wooden spoon in the castle kitchen or how did a prisoner feel in the castle dungeon... All these questions will be answered on the children's tour! Dates: July 10 and 24, 2025, August 7 and 21, 2025, both at 4.00 pm with meeting point at the castle gate.
Murau Castle, owned by the Schwarzenberg family, towers above the town of Murau. The castle can only be visited as part of the guided tours on offer.
The castle in Murau, first mentioned in 1250, was probably built by Ulrich von Liechtenstein. The lordship of Murau was owned by the Liechtenstein family for a long time and remained in the possession of the widow Anna Neumann von Wasserleonburg after the dynasty died out. Anna Neumann married the Imperial Count Georg Ludwig zu Schwarzenberg in 1617, her sixth marriage. Georg Ludwig had the castle demolished in 1628 and built the Renaissance castle in its present form. Since then, the Schwarzenbergs have been the owners of the Murau estate.
The guided tours through the castle, which also take in the picture gallery, kitchen, dungeon and chapel, give an impression of life behind the castle gates and the history of the Murau estate and castle as well as the House of Schwarzenberg.
