Cross-country skiing in the evening by floodlight, exploring the Nature Park Zirbitzkogel-Grebenzen or on the snow-sure high-altitude trail on the Kreischberg: the Murau region is one of the most versatile cross-country skiing regions in Styria. Courses, on-site equipment rental and cosy refreshment stops along the trails ensure lots of cross-country skiing fun. Four trails have even been awarded the Styrian Cross-country Skiing Quality Seal and guarantee perfect conditions and the highest quality.

For those looking for even more winter action, there are also numerous winter hiking trails and ski tours in the region. Or you can try your hand at biathlon at the Weirerteich cross-country skiing centre and follow in the footsteps of former professional Christoph Sumann.

Interesting facts about the cross-country skiing region

The Murau region has a total of 20 cross-country trails with a total length of around 160 kilometres. Both classic and skating cross-country skiing is possible on almost all of the trails.
Some trails are located in the Nature Park Zirbitzkogel-Grebenzen. Here you can observe nature up close and leave everyday life behind you in a relaxed way.
The altitude in the region is between 800 and 1,800 metres.
The Weirerteich cross-country skiing centre and the stadium cross-country ski run also have floodlighting, making cross-country skiing a pleasure even at late hours.
Courses to try out, private lessons and rental equipment for hire ensure that beginners and professionals are well catered for.
Children up to 14 years of age can use the Weirerteich trail free of charge. There is also a curling rink and ice skating rink here.
Parking facilities are available in the town of Murau and also at the respective cross-country ski trails. The trails can also be easily reached by public transport.
