The Wood Museum has been located in the heart of the Murau wood district in St. Ruprecht ob Murau since 1988. On more than 10,000 m² of indoor and outdoor space, there is a lot to learn about the fascinating raw material wood. You can find out many interesting things here. What was the "Brocknlotter" used for or for what purpose was part of the Christmas tree used in the kitchen, which wood do wainwrights or coopers prefer, what does the balsam poplar smell like, how does larch pitch relieve coughs, what effects does the forest have on the climate and vice versa?
Every year there are changing special exhibitions to keep our museum constantly NEW and interesting.
The Wood Museum is an excursion destination for all weathers; you can spend the whole day in the indoor and outdoor areas of the museum, whether on guided tours or social activities such as bowling, nailing, walking on stilts; at creative workshops - making nice souvenirs and useful items from wood, or simply wandering through the arboretum, where numerous different species of trees and shrubs, many wild herbs, the barefoot path and the shelter hut await the visitor. The lovingly designed wooden water playground is of course a hit with families.
Audio guides are available in German, English, Hungarian and Italian. Our guests can charge their e-bike or e-car free of charge at our charging station during their visit.
