The Winter Inn is the oldest restaurant in Styria!
In 1152 Countess Hemma of Treffen donated this tavern to the monastery of Sittich in Carniola. According to the document of Patriarch Perigrin of Aquileja, this is demonstrably the oldest tavern in Styria. After about 370 years of monastic ownership, Cristan Krautwadl was named as the first owner of the tavern in 1527. From the purchase letters in the house chronicle, 23 owners have been named to date. Three barrel vaults, in which the kitchen is still located, have existed for about 1,000 years and for 1,000 years hospitality has been a matter of course in these rooms. Leave behind the hustle and bustle of the awakening 21st century and find your way back to the roots, where hospitality began.
