There are 214 steps from Schillerplatz to the parish church and on to Murau Castle.
The staircase is the shortest connection between the town and the castle. Even before the Renaissance castle was built in its present form in the 17th century, there was a staircase here. It was rebuilt in 1848 and covered with cast-iron shingles from Turrach. It was renovated in 1980, when the iron shingles were replaced by copper ones.
The castle staircase in Murau is freely accessible at all times.
