This particularly beautiful Catholic parish church with Romanesque, Gothic and later Baroque elements, which was built in the early Middle Ages around 1100 for the wide parish area of the Ranten and Katschtal valleys, is an old witness of Christian culture.

The church is rich in valuable fresco paintings: Inside the church, the modern-looking abstract representation of the Passion of Christ from 1460, furthermore the representation of the legend of James, or the image of the charge of Noah's ark. On the outer facade there is a beautiful picture of St. Christopher that can be seen from afar. But from an ecumenical point of view, the Protestant wall paintings in 3 pictures on the outside are of particular importance. In the area of ​​tension during the Reformation, the pastor at the time, Martin Zeiller sen. Commissioned and executed around 1560-1570 by the Carinthian painter Wenzel Aichler in fresco technique. The first picture, the most beautiful of its kind in Austria, next to the church portal, depicts the central theme of law and grace according to the Lutheran doctrine of justification. The story of the hard-tested Job is shown in the middle picture. The Protestant picture cycle closes in the 3rd picture with Christ as judge of the world at the Last Judgment.
