Maria Schönanger is a Roman Catholic pilgrimage church in the nature park Zirbitzkogel-Grebenzen. The church can be reached by car via Zeutschach or St. Lambrecht.
It was more than 200 years ago when Agnes Zechner from Zeutschach decided to create a new image where a simple cross had stood from time immemorial and to build a wooden chapel for it. Around 1737, the present image of grace and the first chapel at Schönanger were built. The solemn consecration of the present church took place in 1833. Starting from St. Lambrecht, you can reach the pilgrimage church Maria Schönanger on an easily accessible hiking trail, along artistically designed Stations of the Cross by St. Lambrecht artist Anna Heck.
Upon request, they will gladly give you the service times. The church is always open for a prayer or to light candles.
