Teichalm - Sommeralm summit circular trail
Open
Circular hike over striking mountain peaks in the Almenland Nature Park in Styria. The hike leads over Heulantsch, Mooskogel, Plankogel, Saukogel and the Osser.
This wonderful hiking tour takes you to the most beautiful peaks in the Almenland Nature Park. On this hike you get to know the Teichalm and the Sommeralm. This somewhat more demanding tour is definitely worth the effort, as it rewards you with breathtaking views far into the countryside. We start directly on the Sommeralm in the Plankogelrunde from where we walk across lush alpine meadows to the Teichalm.
Our first summit is then the Osser, which is one of the most beautiful view mountains in the region. We continue to the "Schwoabauerkruez" and then walk along the Sieben-Kögel circular trail for a bit. So the trail leads back to the Sommeralm to the windmill and then to the summit of the Plankogel.
From there you return to the starting point at the Stoakoglhütte on the Sommeralm.

More information
- First you join the Plankogl circular hiking trail. The trail goes comfortably along a forest path with a slight downward slope.
- After a small hunting lodge, the trail begins to climb. After about 45 minutes, leave the circular trail, turn right and follow trail no. 745 towards the Teichalm.
- After only approx. 2 min. walking time we reach the "Kerschbaum Gatterl". Turn right and follow trail no. 730 towards Straßegg.
- At the Haberlstall crossroads, follow trail no. 7 up and down the gentle, hilly mountains between the Teichalm and Sommeralm. This section of the trail is one of the most beautiful in the entire Almenland.
- After about 2.5 hours (calculated from the car park at the Stoakoglhütte) we can already see the Teichalm with its beautifully situated Teichalmsee. The descent takes us directly to the Heulantsch car park.
- We continue to the Teichalmsee, which we reach after about 3 hours. On the opposite side of the lake, between the "Aibellift" and "Ostlift" ski lifts, you will find the entrance to trail no. 740 towards Gerler Kreuz.
- After about 30 minutes walking time you reach a crossroads in a wood. Turn left here in the direction of the "Angerwirt" (if you want to get to the Gerler Kreuz, you only need to turn right for about 5 minutes).
- After this junction, the trail continues for about 20 minutes on a slight downhill slope to the Angerwirt (trail no. 42). Opposite the Angerwirt is the entrance (trail no. 45) to the Osser.
- The trail climbs slightly on a gravel road. After about 15 minutes, turn left onto the mountain. First across a pasture and then straight through the forest towards the summit cross.
- From the Angerwirt you should reach the summit cross after about 1 hour. The 1548 m high Osser is one of the most beautiful mountains in the region. Just as straight as the ascent is the descent on the other side of the mountain.
- Our next destination is the "Schwoabauerkreuz" (cross) about 20 min. away, which we can see from a distance as we descend. After the "Schwoabauerkreuz" we continue along the idyllic 7 Kögel path (path no. 45) to the Sommeralm which we reach after about 1 hour 15 minutes.
- Now we go directly to the windmill and on to the 1531 m high Plankogel summit. This summit is only an easy and slightly ascending climb over lush pastures. The summit cross should be reached after about 20 minutes. Just like the Osser, the Plankogel is also an excellent vantage point with views over large parts of the Almenland.
- A short but steep descent to the Stoakoglhütte ends this wonderful circular walk.
