Beekeeper mile (Imkermeile) Hatzendorf

The Beekeeping Mile Hatzendorf is an idyllic circular route to the home of bees.
The beekeeping association of Hatzendorf draws attention to the importance of bees on the network of hiking trails along the tracks of the volcanoes. Panels of the Austrian Beekeepers' Association are intended to raise awareness of the important "little helpers" in nature. It is planned to continuously expand the circular trail and provide information about the forest, meadows and wildlife. On the idyllic circular trail you will get to know the home of the bees in Hatzendorf.

Starting at the Malerwinkl, the path leads over field margins and partly wooded areas through the home of the bees. Often a wonderful view to the Riegersburg opens up here. Hungry people choose the somewhat longer route via Ederberg Thermenlandhof. In Hatzendorf, honey products can be purchased at the farm store of the agricultural college or at Malerwinkl.

More information

Arrival by train to the train station Hatzendorf. Walk past the station's sculpture park and then follow the sidewalk to the left for about 300 meters until you reach Gasthof Malerwinkl, where the trail markings begin. Alternatively, it is also possible to arrive by car. You exit at the A2 - Südautobahn in Ilz/Fürstenfeld.

Detailed information on how to get there can be found here.

The marked trail leads from the Malerwinkl Inn up the road a few steps, at the edge of the forest turn left along the Karnerweg back into the valley and through a farm. Close to nature, the path now nestles on the hill and leads through another farmstead and then into a small piece of forest. Some beech trees form a beautiful forest dome at the entrance and invite you to simply linger in nature. At the height of Habegg is a small asphalt section, then it goes left again into the forest up to the Ederberg in front of the Thierjackl inn. Here the marked trails "Imkermeile" and "spiritual roof" separate. The marking of the beekeeper's path leads further in the direction of Ödgraben, also the Buschenschank Bauer invites you to take a break here and back via Hopfengraben. An artistic station along the way again gives a magnificent view of Riegerburg Castle, before you come back to the village. In the farm store of the agricultural college, the bee products can be purchased. Now it is only a few steps to the starting point.
Hiking shoes or good sports shoes are recommended for walking the trail. Enjoy the view of the Riegersburg!
