The gorgeous Chalet Sonnenschein is located in the middle of the small village of Hohentauern at 1,275 metres above sea level and is the perfect starting point for winter activities such as skiing, cross-country skiing and ski tours.
The chalet was built in 2012 and extended in 2016 with a winter garden, ski box, carport and covered house access. On the ground floor, it has a spacious living room with dining area and a sun-flooded conservatory with panoramic windows. A pull-out couch with TV and a very well-equipped kitchen complete the living/dining area. Furthermore, there is an anteroom with wardrobe and a heated shoe rack (fine for ski boots in winter), a washing machine and a guest toilet.
On the upper floor there are 2 double rooms with a view of the opposite ski slope and an enchanting mountain backdrop, a single room with a view of the Triebenstein and a bathroom incl. rainforest shower and WC.
The chalet is furnished with great attention to detail and also offers families with children enough space and, thanks to the separate bedrooms, sufficient possibilities for retreat. The wooden construction creates a cosy, homely atmosphere and the south-facing conservatory invites you to relax and enjoy.
The surroundings and their possibilities
You are in the middle of the mountains - and yet you don't have to do without the infrastructure of a village (small local market, doctor, butcher, church, restaurants ...).
In winter, Hohentauern offers a wealth of leisure activities - as befits a sports village!
Skiing
11 km of perfectly groomed natural snow slopes in all degrees of difficulty are available to skiers. And this perfect family skiing area is only 150 metres from our chalet - less than 2 minutes walk! Cross-country skiing An extensive network of cross-country ski trails, created according to the findings of sports medicine, makes the heart of all cross-country skiers - from beginners to professionals - beat faster.
Ski tours
Mountaineers will also feel at home here in winter. Numerous ski tours await you: from enjoyable tours to high alpine tours with long descents, everything is possible. Of course you will also find guided ski tours, ski tour seminars and information on avalanche awareness here in Hohentauern.
Snowshoeing
Exploring the surroundings and the wonderful nature doesn't always have to happen with hiking boots - why not try a snowshoe hike!
Curling
The ice rink at the Alpenhotel Lanz in Hohentauern invites you to have fun.
You will also be spoilt with culinary delights in numerous restaurants within walking distance.
In Hohentauern you are known to be a little closer to heaven. When you enjoy the evening sun in the winter garden after a beautiful day of skiing, you are not only a bit closer to heaven, but you feel like you are in paradise!

Arrival by car: Exit A9 Trieben, then 10 km in the direction Judenburg on the main road ("Bundesstraße") until you reach Hohentauern. Just after the church you'll find "Almdorf".
