The historic Messnerhaus from 1720 was purchased by the Brüggemann family a few years ago and has been carefully restored. As a result, a modern pilgrim hostel has emerged in Obdach with a historical ambiance, right in the town center of the beautiful market community. There you will find a bakery, the post office in the most beautiful flower shop, two hairdressers, the enjoyment market, a Spar supermarket, and a cultural association. Another supermarket and a clothing store are located opposite the Raiffeisenbank Zirbenland, and along this traffic-calmed street (Obdach is bypassed by a tunnel), you will find restaurants, bars, cafes, and an ice cream parlor.
The Pilgrim Hostel Obdach is exclusively a non-smoking establishment and a Christian private room rental that is rented to families, married couples, and pilgrims. In the private garden, a campfire evening can be arranged upon special request or you can play table tennis. A personal, small fitness room is available, which can be used at your own risk with a separate liability waiver. Pets are generally allowed as long as they do not chase our friendly running ducks!
In your leisure time, Obdach invites you to hike and ski. A ski FIS slope is within walking distance, and a natural cross-country ski trail, depending on weather conditions, passes closely by the house. Furthermore, the family ski area Rieseralm and the cross-country ski trail at Hohe Ranach can be reached in just a few minutes by car.
In the immediate vicinity, there is a large playground, a mountain bike pump track, a beach volleyball court, and tennis courts (for a fee). In the gym, there is free group gymnastics (Tuesday & Thursday) supported by the Movement Land Styria. Naturally, beautiful hiking trails and bike paths are right at your doorstep. In the fall, the peace of the forest is often enjoyed while searching for mushrooms. Riding lessons can be arranged in the village or nearby, depending on the discipline (trail riding, jumping, dressage, seat training). In spring and autumn, guided three-day rides from St. Andrä to Slovenia are available for very skilled riders (one of the longest galloping stretches lasts 10 minutes non-stop).
The long-distance hiking trail and the Camino de Santiago, just like the Mur cycle path, pass directly by the house.
The local mountain "Zirbitzkogel" can be hiked from various sides. These tours, passing lakes and alpine huts, offer wonderful experiences on pleasantly challenging (sporty) routes.
The Granitzen nature trail is a free, small adventure path in wild nature, with small discovery stations leading up to the old mill.
The Fohnsdorf spa "Aqualux Therme" is a favorite destination for guests looking for a day of relaxation and can be reached by car in 20 minutes.
