Bladesmith Museum

Weiz

On the outskirts of Weiz there is still the old Mosdorfer factory from the late 18th century with the blade and scythe hammer with food and next to it the cabbage bar. Today a museum gives an insight into the blacksmithing, for which Weiz was known for centuries. Such hammer mills stood on the strong rivers of the whole of Styria and forged the iron into sickles, scythes, knives and swords.

The hammer on the Weizbach was first mentioned in the 14th century. Since 1712, when Josef Mosdorfer and the widow Lehr married, the blade forge has been known as Mosdorfer. At that time, swords, sabers and sickles were made in today's museum.

It was not until 1991 that the blade forge became the company museum of the family-run high-tech company of the KNILL Group.

Touching and trying out is welcome!

In the blade forge, touching is allowed and even expressly encouraged. A surprisingly modern and lively insight into the traditional blacksmithing trade can be obtained from numerous prepared models. From the creation of the materials to the blade production, the individual processes are explained in more detail in stations and clearly illustrated.
